Electric scooters are a great choice if you don’t have a driver’s license or if you simply want an easy, eco-friendly way to move around town. They’re ideal for quick trips, exploring the city, heading to the beach, or reaching nearby shops and attractions.
A driver’s license is mandatory in Playa del Carmen if you plan to ride a car, a scooter, or an ATV. Without a driver’s license, we are prohibited from renting you any of these vehicles. However, we do not require a driver’s license for any of our electric bicycles or e-scooters.
According to the Mexican law and our own use policy, you need to be at least 18 years old to be able to rent one of our vehicles.
We need a copy of your passport and a fixed deposit amount (it varies depending on the vehicle). It’s fully refundable if there are no issues with the vehicle after your rental period is over.
All vehicles using fuel come with a full tank. However, they also need to be returned with a full tank.
All of our cars, scooters, and ATVs come with a valid insurance plan.
If the vehicle is damaged in any way because of a road collision, we might need to keep part of the deposit but the insurance will take care of the whole repair. However, if the damage occurs without an accident, you’ll have to fully cover the repair cost and the downtime of the vehicle.
As long as you follow the common driving rules and at all cost avoid driving under any form of substance (eg. alcohol), driving in Playa del Carmen can be deemed a safe experience. The town is constructed in such a way (especially the central part), that getting into an accident (especially a serious one) is very unlikely.
Driving outside of Playa del Carmen is allowed only if you’re renting one of our cars or scooters. When it comes to all the other vehicle types (ATVs, electric scooters and electric bicycles), you need to use them exclusively within Playa or its very close proximity.
